Although the weather was inclement earlier in the day, we had a fantastic crowd who enjoyed their free BBQ and Drinks, and were fortunate to see three penalty shoot-outs in the Junior competitions. Congratulations to all teams who made the Grand Finals, and to all teams for a trying but successful season 2022.
Our Gippsland Strikers Women VL2 team fell just short in their do-or-die Semi Final against Melbourne High School Old Boys HC on Sunday 28th August, losing 2-1. Playing to the whistle proved costly, with the winning goal coming through confusion in the last line of the defensive line with an easy goal to MHSOB late in the 4th quarter. Everyone played well in the warm conditions, with our juniors stepping up and showing that they are very capable in VL2.
Our U16 Girls Shield A team were defeated 4-1 by a powerful StKilda Powerhouse HC last Friday night 2nd September. They were out-gunned in the first 10 minutes of the game, with StKilda scoring 3 quick goals. We were able to match it with them for the rest of the game. A great effort by all of the girls, and well done to Andrew Marks as coach and Andrew Mock as team manager.
Our Under 18 Mixed SE team played their best against KBH Brumbies last Friday night 9th September, but were out played by a better complete side going down 2-5. Still a fantastic effort to be runner up and we thank all of the players for their efforts for the season, Paul Cake the coach and Natalie Oellermann the team manager.
Our 45+ CSE Monday Mens team had a ‘difficult’ season winning 2 and drawing 1 and finished holding up the rest of the ladder. Either way they had a great season together and it is always nice to see our ‘veterans’ still enjoying their hockey.
Our Strikers teams have their presentation evening on Wednesday night – see FB for details.
